Mark has taught at the Swannanoa Gathering in N.C., the Irish Arts Week in N. He has performed with former Bluegrass Boy Tony Ellis, Daithi Sproule (Altan), Pete Sutherland (Metamora), Alice Gerrard (Hazel and Alice), Ranger Doug (Riders in the Sky), Tim O'Brien, and Charlie Louvin (Louvin Brothers). His music has been heard at Merlefest and highlighted on NPR’s The Thistle & Shamrock, and The State of Things. In 2013 he co-founded the Old Jonny Booker Band which re-creates Early American music popular between 17 on period instruments and in period dress. Sing Out! Magazine called him “an exceptionally talented interpreter of old-time vocal and instrumental tunes” and “a gifted composer of timeless music.” He currently tours with his wife, Julee Glaub, as the duo Little Windows, which performs a mix of Irish, Old-Time, Country, Gospel, and Originals. In 2009, he created the North Carolina School of Traditional Music, which facilitates the local dissemination of the Celtic, Piedmont, and Appalachian musical traditions of the state. in History in 1998, and currently resides in Durham, N.C. His ancestors came to this country from Scotland in 1719, eventually settling in south Alabama and Mississippi.

Mark Weems is a multi-instrumental music teacher and professional performer of traditional music. As a natural outgrowth of his lessons sprang the desire to create The Banjo Parlor!
He started teaching in 2006 and students were always asking for recommendations of what banjo to buy and where to get the banjo accessories they needed. Mark Weems started The Banjo Parlor in 2016 to meet the needs of his students at the North Carolina School of Traditional Music. My goal is to match the low prices of the big online boxstores like Amazon or Ebay and still provide you with the opportunity to play the banjo before you actually buy it and support a small local community business in the process! And after your banjo purchase, I can also meet all the other needs you'll have to start off on your wonderful adventure to banjoland - a gig bag, tuner, strap, or method book.
However, the flip side of this is that due to our low overhead, I can keep prices lower than any other instrument store in the area. Since the Banjo Parlor also functions as a teaching studio, unfortunately all visits need to be by appointment only. And remember, all Deering banjos are made right here in the U.S.A.
